Montana Is Home To The Best Pasties And Here Are 5 Places To Find Them
If you grew up here in Montana, you’ve probably heard of pasties — and you also probably know they have nothing to do with tassels. The pasty is a savory baked pastry frequently associated with Cornwall… and Montana. They’ve been a local favorite in Butte since the late 1800s when miners filled up on the hearty meat-filled pies after a long day of work.
We’d like to think Montana has the best pasties in the country. Try one from each of these five spots and see if you agree.

Lisa's has been around since 1996 when Lisa and Charlie McGrath decided to perfect the art of the pasty. We happen to think they've done a fantastic job. They're open Monday through Saturday, leaving plenty of time to form an addiction.

Butte is where the pasty craze began, and a meal from Nancy's will make you understand why it did. The signature dish here comes covered in gravy, and it really hits the spot on a cold day.

Speaking of Butte pasties, don't leave town without trying one from Joe's Pasty Shop. This local icon has been around since 1947, and there's a reason it's still here.

MineShaft is a must-see for anyone passing through Anaconda. They make classic pasties, contemporary version, and other delicious baked goods. They're closed Sundays and Mondays, but the rest of the week, you'll find them baking by 8:30 a.m.

Big Paul's pasties are made fresh daily. Flavors include sausage, chicken, and empanada style, and they're all outstanding.
The pasty has become an iconic Montana food, and we couldn’t be happier. We love them almost as much as we love huckleberries.
